British Memorial Garden

The British Memorial Garden at Hanover Square, New York is a gift from the British and Anglo-Americans to the people of New York.  It is intended to serve both as a symbol of the unity between the United States and the United Kingdon as well as a living memorial to the British servicemen who have died alongside their American comrades struggling against tyranny and oppression and to the British nationals who lost their lives in the World Trade Centre attacks.  The Garden, which was officially launched on 29 April, 2003 in the presence of HRH The Princess Royal and is designed by the noted UK landscape architects Julian and Isabel Bannerman, reflects Britain's unique gardening heritage.

On 1 Novemeber, 2005 HRH The Prince of Wales, Patron of the Garden, and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall unveiled the Garden's centerstone on the first day of their Royal Visit to the United States.  Pictures of the event can be viewed on the official website of the British Memorial Garden.  The garden is an example of a Sister City project.
