Deputy Consul General Geoff Brammer

Geoff Brammer took up his appointment as Deputy Consul General at the British Consulate-General, Chicago in June 2006. He joined Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service in 1985. In his initial career, he was posted to Nigeria, the Bahamas and Iran. In 1995, he opened the first British embassy in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, following the country's independence from the Soviet Union. In 1998, he was posted to Barbados as Her Majesty's Consul for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.

He has also had assignments in Hungary, Montserrat and at the United Kingdom's Mission to the United Nations Security Council in New York. Before moving to Chicago, Geoff served as the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Head of Global Crisis Management Operations in London.

Geoff was born in 1965 in Denton, Lancashire in the United Kingdom and was raised in Manchester in the North West of England. His wife Rosemary McColgan is a Chartered Surveyor and is employed as a senior Cost Estimator with the Concord Group in Chicago.  His interests include playing the piano, and also sport, particularly racquet sports, running and soccer. He is a keen Manchester United supporter.
