The Consular Section handles notarial work, citizenship ceremonies, notices of marriage and matters relating to the welfare of British Citizens within our consular district. Please Note: Our notarial services are by appointment only, please use our online appointment form. Requests for Visa information or appointments can not be answered here.
We are open between 9:00am and 12:30pm to assist distressed British nationals, including the issue of emergency temporary passports (Tel: 312 970 3800). Please note that the Consular Section can not answer visa-related inquiries.
All passport inquiries (other than emergency temporary passports) are dealt with by the British Embassy in Washington DC. Please see our passport section.
We accept Consular inquiries from:
Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
There are additional consular representatives in Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. However, please direct your first contact through the British Consulate-General in Chicago. If you are a British national living outside this area, please locate your nearest Consulate.
