About the Political, Press and Public Affairs section
The Political, Press & Public Affairs Section handles virtually all non-commercial and non-consular inquires. The section may be contacted for the following:
Government Policies & Statements: Official statements and position papers of the British Government may be obtained; serves as the contact point for the television, radio and print media; coordinates requests from universities, World Affairs Councils, speaking platforms and the like for official government speakers.
Commercial Publicity: Works with the UK Trade and Investment on specific promotional campaigns; provides press releases on new products and trade show information.
Public Affairs: Keeps local Government officials and opinion leaders informed of British views; and provides senior officials in London with political, legislative and economic trends in the North East.
Education. Offers materials and information on Britain for teachers and schoolchildren and study in Britain information.
Marshall Scholarships & Atlantic Fellowships. Serves as the Marshall Scholarship ($50,000 scholarship for 2 years of study in the UK) coordinator for the North-Eastern Region with an annual deadline of mid-October, seeks nominations for the Atlantic Fellowships (three to ten month fellowships in UK to study/research areas of mutual public policy interest by mid-career professionals) with an annual deadline October / November.

Scottish International Scholarship Programme

The Scottish International Scholarship Programme is targeted at graduates in science, technology and the creative industries, and aims to create lasting connections between Scotland and industry leaders and entrepreneurs across the world. It is supported by the Scottish Executive's Fresh Talent initiative which aims to encourage bright, talented and hard-working individuals to live, work and study in Scotland. The scholarships provide full funding to come to Scotland for a year of post-graduate study. They cover tuition fees, economy air travel to and from Scotland and a living allowance to study at any Scottish higher education institution. To apply, students should ideally be between the ages of 25-35, have approximately three years of work experience and have strong academic credentials from an accredited university in the US. Arts, Culture, Music, Drama. Serves as the Cultural Attache working with the British Council and British cultural organisations visiting the US.
Wilton Park. Seeks interested participants in the international conferences hosted by Wilton Park at Wiston House in Sussex, England. These small conferences attract mid-level and senior officials, businessmen, and academics from around the world for one-week conferences on the leading international issues of the day.
Flag Service - A limited number of flags are made available for members of the public to borrow – including: the Union Jack, the English, Scottish and Welsh standards and the European Union Flag.
