17 November 2009: The British American Business Council of New England's Environment and Energy Committee hosts “Public Capital for Cleantech in the U.S. and U.K.: Untangling Public Capital and the Stimulus” on Tuesday evening, November 17, 2009, at the Genzyme Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Recent events


Ambassador

On October 29, 2009, Friends Forever USA, a 501(c)(3) global non-partisan advocacy and awareness organization dedicated to peace, brought 15 Protestant and Catholic youth from Northern Ireland to the British Consulate in Boston for a question and answer session with Joseph Pickerill, Vice Consul for Political, Press and Public Affairs. The youth were part of three groups visiting New England from the UK - including Carrickfergus, Belfast, and Bangor. The groups were stationed in Maine, New Hampshire, and the North Shore of Massachusetts, respectively. The group is pictured to the right.

On October 14, 2009, Simon Shercliff, First Secretary at the British Embassy in Washington with responsibility for Afghanistan and Pakistan, and Hassan Abbas, a Senior Adviser to Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center and a former Pakistani government official, met to discuss the complexities of Pakistan's relationship with its neighbors, and to explore the UK Government's commitment to Pakistan and the region at large. The British Consulate hosted BABCNE's Financial Services Speaker Series: "The Past, Present and Future of Capital Markets," breakfast forum featuring J. Phillip Clark, Founder, Epoch on October 1.

The Consul General joined New Hampshire Governor John Lynch for the opening of the Highland Games in Lincoln, New Hampshire. Read more about his visit here.

The British Consulate General Boston, UK Trade & Investment and ThinkLondon hosted an invitation only reception and dinner to discuss the business opportunities in London around the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. Consul General Phil Budden, City of London, and UK Trade & Investment hosted a private dinner with City of London Corporation's Policy Chairman, Stuart Fraser on September 16.

Sarah Brown, wife of Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Shaun Woodward, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, and Martin McGuinness, deputy First Minister for Northern Ireland visited Boston to pay their respects to the late Senator Edward M Kennedy. Read about their visit here.

British Consulate partnered with Northeastern University for a speech by the British Foreign Office Minister, Mr Bill Rammell on 5 May 2009. 
The British Foreign Office Minister, Mr Bill Rammell, spoke on "The Middle East Peace Process" at Northeastern University on 5 May 2009 as part of a three-day visit to the US that included stops in Washington and Boston. The British Consulate General Boston was a stop on the 2009 North American Campaign events for alumni and friends of the University of Oxford on April 23, 2009.
