Deputy Consul-General, Chris Henderson

Chris Henderson arrived in Boston to become Britain's Deputy Consul-General to New England in August 2008.

Prior to this assignment, Chris was the Vice Consul (Commercial) to the British Consulate-General in Sydney, Australia where he was responsible for co-ordinating UK Trade & Investment's chargeable work done across the Australia network, and also managed a busy Consular section helping British nationals.

Originally from the North of England his diplomatic career started in 1990. Since then he worked in London doing political work as 2nd Secretary covering UK-South Africa bilateral relations, and in the European Union Department where he was the Post Holocaust Issues officer.  From 1997-2004 he served in a temporary capacity in: Cameroon, Kosovo, Italy, Nigeria, Bahrain, Ghana, The Gambia, DR of Congo, Taiwan, India, Russia, Jordan, Barbados, Saudi Arabia, Malawi, and Denmark.  

Chris has worked on a number of specific roles: Foreign & Commonwealth Office representative on the UK Home Office working group to formulate a national Holocaust Memorial Day; FCO advisor/liaison to the Imperial War Museum's permanent Holocaust exhibition; UK representative on The Task Force for International Co-operation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance, and Research; FCO Africa Directorate HIV/AIDS co-ordinator; Private Secretary to the UK Environment Minister at the Johannesburg World Summit for Sustainable Development in 2002.

With his interests in computers, gadgets & technology, cinema & theatre, reading, cooking & entertaining, music, and travel, Boston is a great fit for his latest post.  He is accompanied here by his (Australian) partner Jeremy Marron.
