Claire Newman

Claire started working for Her Majesty's Government in 1989 at the British Consulate General, Frankfurt am Main. In 1992 she moved to Atlanta and joined the British Consulate General as a research assistant for the commercial section and was promoted to the position of Personal Assistant to HM Consul in 1994.

As Vice Consul for Consular Affairs since 2004, Claire Newman is in charge of the consulate's service to British nationals in six states. She previously served as British Pro Consul and Senior IT Administrator for Atlanta.

Claire's consular work has spanned over 15 years working on Human Trafficking and Child Abduction cases and Hurricane Katrina. She has had the opportunity to train in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), and Crisis Responses and Intervention and has also trained with the State of Georgia Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). Claire is a trained FCO TRiM assessor.


Claire is a member of the National Organization of Victims Assistance (NOVA); the Atlanta Citizens Emergency Response Team (ACERT) and has supported the Atlanta Police Foundation (APF). Claire has been a member of the British American Business Group, Atlanta  (BABG) since 1993 and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors.
