Come visit the British Embassy during the third annual EU Embassies' Open House Day on 9 May from 10 to 4pm. Take part in our low-carbon bazaar or stroll through our Ambassador's legendary garden as we showcase the best of the United Kingdom. Learn about how the UK is ensuring a greener future for the world while enjoying family friendly activities, entertainment and tastings of the UK's finest food and drink.

Visitors will have the opportunity to see:

  • The Residence's symmetrical garden with double stairs and paths leading to the rose garden;
  • Lawns surrounded by trees including several planted by members of the Royal Family;
  • A bronze statue of Sleeping Horse by Dame Elisabeth Frink;
  • A 'secret' garden with shrubs and perennials which features a stone seat made from the cornerstone of the original residence in Connecticut Avenue; and
  • The residence, built in 1920s, which is the only Sir Edwin Lutyens' house in America.

As you enter the British Embassy green bazaar, you will be treated to:

  • Get a bag, Give a bag: For those that bring a recyclable bag will receive an eco-friendly British Embassy tote bag.
  • Color with Crayons: Kids bring your broken favorite crayons and we will recycle them and in turn you will be treated to face painting and other activities.
  • Greening your life: View the new electric Mini Cooper, pick up tips from the British Embassy’s green team on how to save energy, and see displays and samples on how to green your home.
  • Food and Culture: The British School will entertain the public upon entering the British Embassy, MacAllan will be offering a whiskey tasting, McGinty’s Pub will be selling English fare and VisitBritain will offer tourist information.
