Energy and climate change minister Joan Ruddock visits Detroit (October 06, 2009)
A top UK minister with the Department of Energy & Climate Change is visiting Detroit and will participate in the Midwestern Governors Association Jobs & Energy Forum this week.
Joan Ruddock MP, UK Minister of State, is meeting with top officials in energy, industry, and climate policy in Michigan's largest city Tuesday and Wednesday, October 6-7.
At the MGA Energy & Jobs Summit, Ruddock will speak to governors, state policy leaders, NGOs, and business stakeholders to share UK successes on developing a low-carbon economy and to emphasise the need for a global agreement in Copenhagen.
The MGA's Jobs Platform and Energy Infrastructure Accord will be released at the forum, which follows from the Energy Security and Climate Stewardship Platform which several Midwest states signed in 2007. Ruddock's participation in the MGA Jobs & Energy Forum also comes two years after Michigan and Wisconsin signed Memoranda of Understanding with the United Kingdom on the need to understand and take action on climate change.
