Cleantech Mission to the US Northeast (September 30, 2009)
From September 7-11, 2009, UK Trade & Investment hosted a delegation of UK clean technology executives exploring new and emerging opportunities in the US Northeast. With visits in New York and Boston, the Cleantech Mission provided insights into developments in the US at a time when economic stimulus and a shifting political landscape are driving the transition to a low carbon economy.
Cleantech Mission delegates, representing technology firms, engineering consultancies, investment funds, and academia, were a testament to the UK’s excellence in the clean energy sector. Learn more about the delegates in our Cleantech Mission brochure.

Over the course of the week, UK Trade & Investment hosted senior-level market briefings, meetings with state and local government representatives, “how to” sessions with cleantech specialist law and investment firms, networking receptions and best practice exchanges with UK and US companies, and site visits to best-in-class cleantech facilities in New York and Boston. Delegates were immersed in a curriculum that covered key topics – such as the stimulus package and its impact on alternative energy technologies, the state of regulatory frameworks and incentives, and venture capital market trends – and given a first-hand perspective on the innovation emerging in the US Northeast.

This mission complements UK Trade & Investment’s July 2009 roadshow to five UK cities, which gave thought leaders from New York and Boston the opportunity to brief UK audiences on developments in the US marketplace and to explore the state of the UK’s cleantech industry.
The roadshow coincided with the release of the UK’s Renewable Energy Strategy and Low Carbon Transition Plan which set out the Government's plan for the transition to a low carbon economy.
