Consul General Phil Budden joins New Hampshire Governor John Lynch for the opening of the Highland Games (September 21, 2009)
On Saturday, September 19, Consul General Phil Budden joined New Hampshire Governor John Lynch in the opening of the Scottish Highland Games at Loon Mountain Ski Resort in Lincoln, New Hampshire.
The New Hampshire Highland Games is the largest Scottish cultural festival in the Northeast and is presented annually by The New Hampshire Gathering of the Scottish Clans, Inc., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the furtherance of the music, dance, athletics and customs of the Scottish people and to the continuance of the Gaelic culture.

Known for its diverse program, highlights include the Gathering of the Scottish Clans, with over 60 clans and societies, Massed Bands, Sheepdog Trials, Celtic World Music Concerts, the New England Regional Scottish Fiddle Championship, Heavyweight Scottish Athletics, National Highland Dance Competition, Solo Piping & Drumming, Scottish Harp (Clarsach) & other instrument competitions.

The Consul General tweeted from the event on the British Consulate Boston's Twitter feed, noting that he was "honoured to join New Hampshire's Gov. Lynch in opening the 2009 Highland Games today."
