Consulate-General promotes success of Northern Ireland settlement (September 16, 2009)
Sir Jonathan Phillips, Permanent Under-Secretary of State, Northern Ireland office, was in the Bay area on 8 September, to talk about the current situation in Northern Ireland and economic and trade prospects in Belfast, as well as to look at the wider issue of translating lessons learnt from the successful Northern Ireland peace process to conflicts elsewhere.
Sir Jonathan was interviewed by The Irish Herald, spoke to a roundtable of faculty and students at Stanford University, and was the guest of honour at a dinner debate hosted by the Consul General, Julian Evans.
The dinner debate included prominent members of the Irish-American community in San Francisco, who had closely followed the peace process, the Irish Consul General, and faculty members from Stanford University and UC Berkeley who specialise in conflict resolution.
