Prime Minister Gordon Brown congratulates England cricketers (March 23, 2009)
The Prime Minister has sent his congratulations to the England women’s cricket team for their “super achievement” in winning the World Cup.
The England women’s cricket team beat New Zealand by four wickets in the World Cup final held in Sydney on Sunday.
It was the first time since 1993 that the England team had won the tournament.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown said,
“It was a thrilling game and the whole country can be immensely proud of the spirit and skill the team showed in beating New Zealand. I am delighted for captain Charlotte Edwards and the whole team and hope they are all now celebrating a famous victory down under!”
