If you need a doctor

The USA  does not have a reciprocal health agreement with the UK, which means that you will have to pay for health treatment that you receive in the United States. You are strongly advised to take out comprehensive medical insurance before travelling to the USA, as costs for treatment can be high.

The standard of healthcare in the USA is high. If you fall ill while on holiday, your tour guides, hotel or and family and friends (if you are visiting family ) are the best resource to initially find a doctor.

In every city or town there is usually a “walk –in clinic” where you can receive treatment without having to make an appointment. In an emergency situation, you can also go to the local hospital.

What we can do:

  • Contact family or friends that may be able to help and support you.

What we cannot do:

  • Pay for your treatment
  • Intervene in your treatment
Remember to keep any receipts or doctor's notes in case you need them to make an insurance claim.
